INVEST is the annual business competition for veteran entrepreneurs sponsored by The Lawyers of Brown & Roberto. This week we are featuring the three finalists on our blog. Each will make their pitch “Shark Tank” style at the TVBA Business Expo on Tuesday, January 27 and the winner will receive a $5,000 grant from The Lawyers of Brown & Roberto.
Norman Anderson spent more than 20 years as a marksmanship instructor with the United States Army. Originally from rural Illinois, Anderson and his family were transferred to Knoxville in 2012. It didn’t take long for them to fall in love with East Tennessee and it’s here that they hope to stay when he retires from active duty.
Among other assignments, Anderson served as a guest instructor at the Navy SEALS Sniper Course. When asked how much influence he may have had on Chris Kyle, of American Sniper fame, he laughed. “I can’t verify it,” he said, “but he may have been one of my students.”
His passion for marksmanship and teaching marksmanship is what led him to found Clear Image Solutions. Anderson founded the company “on the idea that there had to be a better way to not only teach and learn marksmanship, but also to engage targets faster and more effectively.”
Anderson has designed and patented a front sight for the AR-15 rifle. Currently, there are over 16 million AR-15 type rifles in the United States alone. The popularity of this particular rifle, as well as its modular design, make it one of the most versatile rifles in American history.
The sight designed by Clear Image Solutions allows the user to choose the size and color of the fiber optic aiming point reference. These features are fully interchangeable without the need for any tools or external power source. Every part of the sight is easily replaceable by the user, eliminating down time.
Clear Image Solutions’ target market includes both the civilian, military and law enforcement sectors domestically and internationally and includes all shooters from hobbyists to professionally trained users.
Anderson is grateful for the opportunity that he’s had to participate in INVEST. “I had no idea about how to put together a startup plan or even what kinds of questions investors will ask,” said Anderson. “The opportunity to meet and learn from the other entrepreneurs in the group has been very valuable.”
When asked how the $5,000 grand prize might make a difference, he didn’t hesitate. We’ve invested nearly $20,000 in the development of this product over the last seven years,” he explained. “An extra $5,000 would enable us to start production immediately debt free.”
The Lawyers of Brown & Roberto are grateful for Norman Anderson and his service to our nation. Cast your vote for Clear Image Solutions on the Brown and Roberto Facebook Page and make sure to catch his presentation at the TVBA Business Expo Tuesday at 1 pm at the Holiday Inn at World’s Fair Park.
