I Work for a Law Firm?

After more than six years at The Salvation Army, I walked away last fall and began working with several clients as a contractor in Marketing and Public Relations. One of those clients, the Lawyers of Brown & Roberto, recently offered me an opportunity to go full time, and I accepted. Knowing my past and my passions for ministry and the nonprofit world, many of my friends have asked why I would choose to work for a law firm, so I thought I would take this opportunity to explain it.

The short answer is that it’s a good fit. There is a lot of variety – planning and writing blogs, interacting on social media, talking with clients, managing the website, executing advertising strategy and planning special events. Like most of the jobs that I’ve enjoyed, there is no “typical” day.

Another thing that makes it a good fit for me, though, is their commitment to the community. The firm’s partners, Ralph Brown and Andrew Roberto, are both committed Christians who view their job as an opportunity to serve. The thing that each of them enjoys most about their work is the opportunity to help others, and that attitude is contagious.

In this highly competitive market, logic would dictate that we spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on advertising. More than one agency has encouraged them to jump into the fray – to compete for attention with over-the-top ads. However, Ralph and Andrew would rather invest that money back into our community by partnering with established organizations in several strategic areas.

For example:

  • The Salvation Army offers a hand up to thousands of men, women and children each year. They provide services that educate, equip and empower clients to escape situations of abuse, addiction and poverty, and to live as healthy and productive members of our community. In addition to investing financially, the Lawyers of Brown & Roberto serve meals in the soup kitchen, ring bells at Christmas time, provide counsel and leadership as part of the Advisory Board, and occasionally provide legal services for clients.
  • The Epilepsy Foundation works to ensure that people with seizures are able to participate in all life experiences, and works to prevent, control and cure epilepsy through services, education, advocacy and research. The Lawyers of Brown & Roberto assist each year by raising awareness in local schools and by providing hundreds of bicycle helmets to underprivileged kids in our community. Stay tuned to the blog for more information on this upcoming event.
  • The Tennessee Veterans Business Association provides resources and training to help military veterans make a successful transition to civilian life. The Lawyers of Brown & Roberto help by providing a $5,000 grant to the winner of the annual Business Plan Competition and by sponsoring special events like the Medal of Honor Convention.

I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t think there was an opportunity to make a difference – both in the business, and in the community. The Lawyers of Brown & Roberto have given me just that opportunity. Client Reviews
★★★★★
"We tried to go through the insurance company ourselves, but they basically just laughed at us. So I got in touch with The Lawyers of Brown & Roberto. The insurance company's attitude really changed, and within a week we had our car replaced and rehabilitation going for my wife. The Lawyers of Brown & Roberto stuck in there and fought for us." J. Felver
★★★★★
"Had it not been for The Lawyers of Brown & Roberto, I would be in a mess. I would not have been able to handle the paper work or things that would have been required to stand in a court of law myself. They got the most that I could have gotten for any injury that I had. I was more than pleased with the settlement. They handled my case promptly and very professionally." D. Blakeman
★★★★★
"I would recommend The Lawyers of Brown & Roberto because they are for the client. They are extremely tough when they go to court, they keep you well informed, and they treat you as a person. They are extremely good attorneys. They changed my life. They helped my life because they believed in me. They fought for me. I thank God for them." C. Scarbrough
